PM will offer Anjali to Maa Durga this Ashtami in Kolkata, receives multiple invitations
Heavy tension spread across the Company Chhara area of Gangasagar in South 24 Parganas on Sunday night after violence allegedly broke out following a BJP victory procession. The house of a Trinamool Congress booth president was allegedly vandalized and partially set on fire during the incident. A large police force was later deployed in the area to control the situation and prevent further unrest.
According to local sources, the BJP had organized a victory procession on Sagar Island to celebrate its electoral success. The situation allegedly turned violent when the rally reached near Booth No. 25 under Muriganga No. 2 Gram Panchayat. It was alleged that some people participating in the procession entered the residence of TMC booth president Kabak Sheikh.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the attackers first disconnected the electricity supply to the house before carrying out vandalism inside the premises. Family members who were present in the house at the time claimed that furniture and household items were damaged. Allegations were also made that cash, gold jewellery, and other valuables were looted before several portions of the house were set ablaze. Kabak Sheikh was reportedly not at home during the incident.
Following the violence, panic spread across the locality. Police personnel from Sagar Police Station reached the area after receiving information, while fire brigade teams worked to control the blaze. Authorities later intensified police patrolling in the region to prevent any further escalation. The affected family alleged that they were threatened during the attack and forcibly asked to chant religious slogans.
The Trinamool Congress directly blamed BJP workers for the violence and alleged that the attack was politically motivated. However, the BJP denied the allegations. BJP leader Chanchal Panda claimed the party’s victory procession had been peaceful and alleged that the arson was carried out by individuals associated with the Trinamool Congress to defame the BJP and create unrest in the area.
